Why We Withdrew from Amazon & Walmart

Updated: 3 days ago

Choosing independence over algorithms

For years, independent authors have been told that success depends on being available everywhere — especially on giant platforms like Amazon and Walmart. At first, it seemed like the only way to be “visible” in a crowded market. But at TingeWorld, we’ve chosen a different path. We’ve stepped away from global distribution giants, and here’s why.

The Cost of Convenience

Artist Strike for Indie Publishing Rights

On the surface, listing through Amazon or Walmart seems like an advantage: more reach, more readers, more sales. But the reality is that these platforms often undercut indie authors’ profits. Their algorithms push titles published through Amazon’s own KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing), while independent presses are buried, underpriced, or marked up without consent.

The result? Authors lose both visibility and fair compensation. Books become just another commodity in a warehouse of millions, and the unique voices that make indie publishing so vital get drowned out.

Our Choice: Authorship with Integrity

At TingeWorld, we believe books aren’t meant to be disposable. They’re meant to be treasured, revisited, and discussed. That belief doesn’t fit well in a system built on algorithms and volume sales.

By withdrawing from Amazon and Walmart, we’ve reclaimed control of pricing, presentation, and distribution. Instead of giving preference to faceless systems, we choose to partner with brick-and-mortar bookstores who keep the spirit of community alive.

Where You Can Still Find Us

  • We are proudly listed in the U.S. Trade Directory, making our titles accessible to bookstores across the country.

  • We continue to offer wholesale pricing for shops with a physical presence.

  • Direct sales through TingeWorld ensure both readers and authors benefit more fairly.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just about sales; it’s about creative independence. When authors and publishers stand outside the grip of monopolies, they gain the freedom to experiment, to publish the unusual and the daring, and to keep literature diverse.

By choosing not to play by Amazon and Walmart’s rules, we’re making a small stand for what publishing can be: human, quirky, and independent.

At TingeWorld, we’re not chasing algorithms. We’re building a home for books that matter.
